Garbage dump in front of KU stays

Karachi: A big garbage dump on the land of Karachi University in front of the Silver Jubilee Gate of the varsity on the opposite side of Main University Road is yet to be removed despite repeated complaints of students, teachers, and citizens and frequent reporting of the matter in both print and electronic media.

The garbage dump is situated next to a marriage hall, called University Lawn in front of the Silver Jubilee Gate on the flank of Main University Road from KU to NIPA Chowrangi. It gives the whole area a very sorry look, but the KU and Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town authorities are doing nothing to remove it.

The insensitive officers of the KU have just erected a notice board in front of the garbage dump saying this land do belongs to the Karachi University, which is like adding insult to injury. The KU should have removed the garbage dump and erected a boundary wall around its land and ensured its proper cleanliness, but the KU bosses seem lacking administrative skills as well as a civic sense. A long stretch of KU land on this side of the University Road from the University Laws to the Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre has already encroached by gypsies, who have erected makeshift huts there. They use the bushes of this university plot as their open-air lavatory. People from the surrounding areas also dump garbage and debris here, which give this whole area a sorry look.

The students, teachers and parents once again have requested the KU Chancellor Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan to take notice of this matter and order removing the garbage, debris and bushes from the KU land and erect a boundary wall around it to save it from the encroachers.
