KARACHI: Chief Secretary Sindh Mohammad Siddique Memon on Wednesday advised the local government department to coordinate with the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board for handing over the responsibilities of sanitation from KMC and DMCs of districts East, West, South, Central, Malir, and Korangi to SSWMB together with the powers of administrators.
He advised this while presiding over a meeting of SSWMB at his office. MD SSWMB briefed that the Board came into being on 12th March 2014 in accordance with a bill passed and approved by Sindh Assembly and Governor Sindh respectively. The garbage shall be collected from door to door and shifted to six garbage transfer stations and selected roads will be washed, while generation of energy will also be carried out.
Memon asked the administrator of Karachi and DMCs to sit together for further necessary action and then coordinate with KMC for smooth delivery of the functions of sanitation to SSWMB. He categorically noted that transition should have been completed within fortnight. He stressed the need of interdepartmental and institutional coordination among all factors including SSWMB.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Implementation & Coordination Syed Tarique Mahmood Jaffery, Secretary General Administration Sajid Jamal Abro, Special Secretary Local Government Ms Lubna Salahuddin and representatives of KMC administrator DMCs.
