Governor addresses reception at Islamabad

Peshawar: The Governor Khyber Pakhtunkwa Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan has said that the security and business environment in Pakistan generally and FATA and the surrounding areas particularly may not be ideal but everyone can feel a big positive improvement having taken place when it is compared to the conditions prevailing two or one and a half years ago.

Addressing a reception hosted by Ittihad Steels for the business community of Islamabad last night the Governor said that the most encouraging aspect of this improvement was that for the first time the country had been put on a proper direction of peace and development after decades of uncertainties. He said now there was an opportunity for the business community who should come forward and avail it.

The Governor pointed out that terrorism had directly inflicted a loss of over $100 billion and the 55000 deaths of the members of different law enforcement agencies but the government had resolved that this soil would never be allowed to shelter any terrorist nor it would be utilized for terroristic activities.

He pointed out that with the induction of the government of President Ashraf Ghani in Afghanistan their relations had improved to a great extent and both the countries wanted to cement their brotherly peaceful relations.

He said that the law enforcing agencies, both civilian and military, police and the general masses had offered great sacrifices for the eradication of the menace of terrorism.

He said that hundreds of thousands of families left their houses, their respective villages and were living in destitute but now they were returning back to their respective areas. He expressed the hope that repatriation of all those temporarily displaced populations would soon be completed.

The governor regretted that disparities had increased in the society which was endangering the business environment and fair competition but once peace, law and order had been restored, all the disparities created by decades of neglect would be removed.

He said that the key to the restoration of peace in Pakistan and the whole region lied in the restoration of peace in FATA and assured that the political leadership to today would continue to play its due role not only in setting a direction but taking it up to its logical conclusion of restoration of peace and bringing back prosperity to the country.

The governor disclosed that mineral exploration including oil and gas would soon be practically taken up in FATA which would usher in a new era of opportunities in the whole region.

The Governor said that KP, FATA and Afghanistan within the prospective of this restoration of peace and the Pak-China Economic Corridor became the hub of great business opportunities in the near future. He called upon the business community to come forward and play their due role both for their own benefit, the benefit of their upcoming generation and the society at large.

The reception was also attended by MNA Dr.G.G.Jamal, Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, and Senator Lt.Gen. (Retd) Abdul Qayum and a large number of prominent businessmen.
