KARACHI: “The present government under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif is taking all possible measures to ensure that education is largely promoted throughout the country generally and in the neglected rural parts of Baluchistan, FATA and other areas particularly.
Educating the masses at grass root level is the key to social and economic growth and progress. The universities are important centers to produce experts in various sciences to meet the academic and research demands of the country.” These views were expressed by the Federal Minister of State for Education, Vocational Training, Interior and Narcotics Baleeghur Rehman during a special presentation at the University of Karachi.
The State Minister showed his concern over the financial crisis the KU faces for the last several years. He added that grants for the HEC was being raised from Rs. 54 billion to Rs. 60 billion to enhance funding for the universities. Welcoming the State Minister to the university, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Qaiser, Vice Chancellor, University of Karachi informed the guest that the University of Karachi was determined to raise the academic and research levels by all means despite its financial restrictions. He told that all possible efforts will be made to sustain the high standards of higher education in the varsity. On the occasion, Tariq Kaleem, Director Finance of KU gave the presentation. During the presentation supported by figurative data it was shown to the guest that KU was giving excellent output, including the Ph.D level, despite limited resources and low fee structure. Deans of Faculties and chairperson of teaching departments were also present in the presentation.
