Govt wanted to pressurize the EC, intentions behind amendments were not good, General ® Hamid Khan

Peshawar: Lt General (Retd) Mohammad Hamid Khan who resigns of Director General Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Ehtesab Commission post on Wednesday said that the intensions of PTI led government were not good for accountability as government wanted to pressurize the Ehtisab Commission therefore he resigns of his seat.

Talking to PPI Hamid Khan said that the intensions of provincial government through amending the K-P Ehtesab Commission (EC) Act 2014 were to keep the commission under control and cut its powers.

“ at present inquiries were under way against some politicians and bureaucrats therefore the law was amended otherwise what thing has compelled the government to bring amendments in the law,” he said.

He said that government has also cut the power of DG through taking back the power of Sue motto or converting a complaint against any persons in to sue motto therefore now if DG knows about any misappropriation through complaints he would be unable to take action.

2nd, he said that government want to complete the inquiry against any person within 30 days otherwise Ehtesab Commission has to clear the persons against the inquiry was started.  “How is it possible to complete the inquiry in white collar crime within 30 days” he questioned.

General ® Hamid Khan said through amendment government now would make appointments in the commission which was earlier the discretion of EC.
