KARACHI: The Aga Khan University will be holding the 18th National Health Sciences Research Symposium from February 24-26, 2015 at the Stadium Road campus in Karachi. ‘Cancer: Promoting Comprehensive Care’ is this year’s theme.
Cancer is a generic term for a large group of more than 100 diseases that can affect any part of the body. One defining feature of cancer is the rapid creation of abnormal cells that grow beyond their usual boundaries. Cancer is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. In 2012, there were an estimated 14.1 million new cases of cancer in the world: 7.4 million (53 per cent) in males versus 6.7 million (47 per cent) in females.
As one of the major event in Pakistan, the symposium will provide a platform for policy makers and health professionals, educators and media to discuss the issues around cancer in Pakistan and the region. National and international speakers will discuss all types of cancers, its prevalence, treatment and care.
