KARACHI: A high level meeting of Ministry of Ports and Shipping has taken place in Islamabad to review the progress made by various departments under the Ministry during the last seventeen months.
The meeting was well attended by DG Ports & Shipping Abdul Malik Ghouri, Chairman Karachi Port Vice Admiral Shafqat Jawed, Chairman Port Qasim Authority Agha Jan Akhtar, Chairman Pakistan National Shipping Corporation Siddique Memon, Chairman Gwadar Port Dostain Khan Jamaluddin, Managing Director Korangi Fisheries Harbour Authority Syed Tariq and DG Marine Fisheries Department Syed Shoukat Hussain and during the meeting briefing was given to the Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Senator Kamran Michael and the Secretary Ports and Shipping Khizar Hayat Gondal.
It was unanimously agreed in the meeting that eyeing the security concerns of Hazara Community and pilgrims, ferry service from Karachi to Iran should be commenced after discussing the at length during meeting session. The Minister Kamran Michael informed that paper works and necessary arrangements had already been made and that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would issue NOC (no objection certificate) in this regard. He further said that upon receiving the NOC, the ferry service would immediately start from Karachi to Iran.
During the meeting various mega projects of ports and shipping sector, like Deepwater Container Port, LNG Terminal, Coal handling dedicated berths, etc were also discussed.
