SIALKOT: All the stakeholders, celebrated the “Home Based Workers Day” here. The main ceremony was mutually organized by UN-Women, NGO Baidarie and Home Net Pakistan at the auditorium of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) here. The day was celebrated for first time in the history of Sialkot with pledges to make all out sincere efforts for providing basic rights to the Home Based Workers (HBWs) by all the stakeholders.
A large number of the home based workers participated in this celebration and raised their voice for the provision and protection of their basic rights in the society.
The day-long discussions during the event reinforced the demand for adoption of policy on Home Based Workers (HBWs), much needed legislation and it’s across the board implementation to protect and promote the rights of the very substantial chunk of workers in the informal sector of national economy.
The speakers including Malik Naseer Ahmed (Vice President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry-SCCI), Babar Raza (manager Home Net Pakistan), Prof. Arshad Mehmood Mirza (Executive Director of NGO Baidarie-Sialkot), Sarwar Ehsan (District Officer Social Welfare Sialkot), Miss Shaheena Kausar (General Secretary Women Workers Association Pakistan), Dr. Nouman Idrees Butt (Former SCCI President), Dr. David Sohail , Javaid Iqbal Gill and Miss Hina Noureen (President NGO Baidarie-Sialkot Women Wing) highlighted the home based workers’ problems, their demands and the government’s efforts to provide and protect their rights.
During this mega event , Executive Director of NGO Baidarie-Sialkot Prof Arshad Mehmood Mirza also shared the progress update and outcome results of its “Programme for Integrated Support for Socio-Economic Rehabilitation of the Jobless Women Soccer Stitchers in Sialkot-Pakistan”, a project under implementation Sialkot district with the technical and financial support being provided by UN-Women.
