Karachi: Pakistan women football team lost the opening match of 3rd SAFF Women Football Championship 2014 to visiting Sri Lankan team by 2-1 score at Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad.
Sri Lankan J.P. Ishara Madushani and E. Kumudumala scored one goal each to start their team’s tournament campaign on winning note. Pakistan skipper Hajra Khan scored her team’s solitary goal.
Pakistan team coach Tariq Lutfi said that the team has many young players and therefore the team is under building process.
“In spite of the fact that our team has many young players, they put up a spirited show, however it was not their day today,” Tariq said after the match.
Meanwhile, skipper Hajra also reiterated Tariq’s word and added that her team would bury the demons of losing early in the tournament and would come in the next match rejuvenated and thirstier for success.
“It was not our day but we will hopefully do better in matches to come,” she said.
Earlier, in the opening ceremony Federal Minister IPC Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada was the chief guest on the occasion. All teams marched past the spectators and later FIFA fair play flag ceremony was also hoisted.
