KARACHI: The International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) belongs to the University of Karachi (UoK) as an integral part. The faculty of ICCBS and the University won’t allow anyone to malign this institution and portray a wrong picture that the institution is separating itself from the University of Karachi.
ICCBS is functioning strictly according to its statutes which have been approved by the Syndicate and the Senate of the University of Karachi.
Director ICCBS-UoK Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary expressed these views while presiding over a faculty meeting held at HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, UoK here.
He said that the international center was governed by its Executive Board, chaired by Vice Chancellor University of Karachi, and comprised of the representative of syndicate, dean faculty of sciences, dean faculty of medicine, registrar, and two donors Mr. Aziz Latif Jamal and Ms. Nadira Panjwani, and eminent scientists.
The administration of the ICCBS is deeply concerned at the recent reports appearing in the sections of the press, attempting to damage the reputation of this internationally renowned research establishment of the University that has won more national and international awards than any other institution in Pakistan. The international awards include Islamic Devolpment Bank Prize for the Best Science Institution (twice 2004 and 2010), World Health Organization Collaborating Center, UNESCO Science Prize, Fellowship of the Royal Society, Khwarzmi International Prize, and ECO and COMSTECH awards, while the national awards include Nishan-e-Imtiaz (01), Hilal-e-Imtiaz (05), Sitara-e-Imtiaz (08), Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (12), etc. It is also recognized internationally by the UNESCO, OIC, and, TWAS as their Center of Excellence, he mentioned.
We take pride as being an integral part of University of Karachi, Dr. Iqbal Choudhary observed, and mentioned that this University was their Alma mater as well.
