KARACHI: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali on Monday instructed police officers to ensure surveillance of criminals and terrorist groups and sharing of intelligence for taking affective action against them to ensure prevention of possible sectarian violence incidents in the wake of month of Muharram.
While issuing the instructions regarding preparing a contingency plan of Moharram 2014, he asked taking concrete steps for checking terrorism and sectarianism incidents. He asked to give proper tasks in the regard to Police Commandos, Specialized Units, Special Branch, Crime Branch, CID, CIA, AVCC and SIU.
Jamali asked to conduct a survey on police range level about mosques and Imambargahs before the Muharram and categorize them in normal, sensitive and very sensitive classes and adopt needed measures for their security.
IGP Sindh instructed that set up a schedule for meeting with all stakeholders for prevention of violence and promotion of interfaith harmony so as to check distribution of inflammatory bills, wall chalking and pamphlets.
He instructed to establish check points on entrance and exit points of cities and towns in the province and make the checking process very strict and impartial.
