KARACHI: Deputy Inspector General of Police, Traffic Karachi, Dr Amir Ahmed Shaikh said on Wednesday that illegal parking before marriage halls, schools, shopping malls and hospitals and on service roads is behind 27 percentage of pedestrian accidents in the metropolis.
Talking to PPI, Dr Amir said Traffic Police Department had sent a list of recommendations to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s New Administrator Sajjad Hussain Abbasi requesting him to sent notices to all these marriage halls, schools, shopping malls and hospitals who have no legal parking areas and creating hurdles in traffic flow, must evacuate the services road and footpaths within one month of period otherwise the stern action would taken against them by traffic police.
He said delay in action against these illegal parking is only because KMC had allowed them and charge them so that they are following the professional way to send them notices first to evacuate the area. He said KMC must follow the rules and regulations as per the law while giving approvals to these illegal parking on the service roads. He said service roads are made only for pedestrians to walk comfortably but the areas have been blocked by illegal parking, mechanical shops, fruit vendors and many other illegal things.
He said 27 percentage of pedestrian walk on main roads as the services roads have been occupied by illegal parking. He said no area is evacuated for pedestrians even footpaths were occupied on different roads including, Shahra-e-Faisal, University road, MA Jinnah Road, Gulistan-e-Johar Area, Gulshan-e-Iqbal Area and many other areas.
He said there should be respect for pedestrians. He warned all owners of marriage hall, schools, hospitals, to follow the law and vacate the services road and not create trouble for traffic flow or pedestrians in the city.
