KARACHI: Security guards posted at Civil Hospital Karachi have been demanding bribe from patients’ attendance for allowing parking of motorcycles and also providing them help in getting medical reports, patients complain. Due to lack of proper check and balance illegal parking and encroachments have also become a major issue.
There are many complaints about private security guards posted in hospitals since last three months. These guards allegedly take bribes from patients for getting done their medical reports early and allotments of beds.
Well-placed sources at the hospital told PPI news agency that complaints against security guards are on the rise, but the management is not taking action to get the malpractices stopped
They said illegal parking and encroachment are major issues of the CHK. Some encroachers have even established their stalls in front of Emergency Ward and Outpatient Departments(OPDs) causing nuisance for patients and also creating hurdles in swift shifting of emergency patients.
Central President Sindh Paramedical Staff Welfare Association (SPSWA), Akhlaq Ahmed Khan, when contacted, said some private security guards are demanding bribes from patients due to delay in their salaries. He demanded of the Health Minister Sindh, Secretary Health and high-ups of hospital to take notice of situation.
Additional Medical Superintendent and Security In-charge CHK Security Dr Rustam Zaman was not available for comment.
