LARKANA: The Divisional Commissioner Larkana, Ghulam Akbar Laghari, said on Thursday that implementation of Sindh Public Procurement Rules (SPPRA) for procurement in the public sector would go a long way to ensure transparency in public procurement, adding that it was imperative for officials of every department such as the nation building departments to acquire training for implementation of the rules.
This he said while addressing a two-day workshop aimed at training officials of line departments on the subject of public procurement. He said the government departments must take advantage from Information Technology and use it as a tool to make the financial matters more transparent and accessible as required under the relevant law.
MD Sindh Public Procurement Regulator Authority (PPRA), Dr Abdul Rahim Soomro said that training was aimed at informing the officials of government departments such as line departments regarding implementation of procurement rules with a view to keep the entire process flawless, avoid any audit objections and utilize the funds for public.
Such workshop, Soomro added, were being held at the divisional level to train the officials responsible for public procurement which involve huge public resources, adding that those officials who had not acquired training would not be included in the committees formed in every departments of procurement.
The workshop was attended among others by divisional heads of various government departments, including line departments, representatives of various firms, consultant group, consortia and registered contractors. Certificates were distributed among the participants last day.
