Karachi: The winning team of the inaugural Chief of the Naval Staff All Pakistan Hockey Tournament 2016 will receive lucrative cash prize of Rs 1.1 million.
The teams which will secure place on the podium at second and third place will bag Rs. 800,000 and Rs. 600,000 respectively.
Pakistan Navy is sponsoring the tournament expecting it to be one of the igniting force for the revival of the national sport.
The tournament is slated for January 19 to 28 and will be played here at Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium.
A total of eight top national teams namely – Navy ,Army ,Air force , Police, National Bank of Pakistan ,Sui Southern Gas Limited, Pakistan Customs and PIA will be seen in action.
A total of 16 matches will be played in the tournament including 12 league matches, two semifinals, third position match and a final. League matches of the tournament will be conducted in two pools where each team will play three matches.
Apart from collective prizes, individual players displaying exceptional performance will also be awarded with cash prizes . A committee comprising Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) and Navy officials headed by tournament director will choose the man of the tournament, best goal keeper and best scorer of the event based on individual performance of the players.
