Injustices with NED University employees on the rise

KARACHI: NED University Employees Association’s (NEDUEA) Senior Vice President Abdul Qadir Gabol on Wednesday demanded of the university’s administration to activate employees’ Life Insurance Policy which is dormant due to non-payment since last few years despite the premium amount deducted from employees’ salaries every month.

Gabol said in 2012, previous university’s administration had contracted with private insurance company for employees’ life insurance which was against their wish and the fixed amount was deducted from teaching and non-teaching faculty members’ salaries every month.

He said the present administration had stopped payment to the company due to funds shortage, but it had not stopped deducting the amount from their salaries since 2013.

Gabol said why employees should pay the insurance amount which is not beneficial to them anymore as the policy had become dormant. He said a few months back, they had protested against the administration for acceptance of their genuine demands and had presented a list of demands to Vice Chancellor Mohammad Afzal Haq, but those demands could not be met yet.

He demanded of the administration to release house ceiling allowance as per the Sindh government’s announcement of 2015, reactivate insurance policy with benefits to those employees who died during the time when policy became dormant, while leave encashment, issuance of Eid advance salaries and departmental promotions be also ensured, which have been stopped since last 20 years.
