IO’s NBW issued for not arresting accused Bikak

KARACHI: An Ant-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday issued non-bailable warrant (NBW) against an Investigation Officer (IO) Hussain Mehdi and ordered his salary to be stopped for not arresting notorious gangster, Shahid Bikak, in explosives material and illicit weapon cases.

The accused, Bikak, was nominated in several cases of attempting to murder, attacking law enforcers and possessing illicit weapons and explosives including attack on Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Rasheed Godel. Despite the court’s directives of arresting the accused, the police are unable to nab him.

Earlier, the court had issued Bikak’s warrants for several times in cases registered against him at Gulberg police station and directed the IO to arrest and produce him before the court but police remained unable to do so.

Bikak is said to be the ringleader of a notorious gang involved in contract killings, kidnappings, extortion, drug peddling and other crimes. In Saturday’s hearing, when the court was informed that the suspect is still beyond police’s reach, it expressed its displeasure and issued NBWs against IO Mehdi and re-issued Bikak’s arrest warrants for yet another time.

It is pertinent to mention here that the accused was on bail for more than a year. Then the court was told by the police that he had disappeared and is not available at the given addresses nor did his relatives know about his whereabouts.
