JI demands ending ban on student unions

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Sindh amir Dr Merajul Huda Siddiqui on Tuesday welcomed the formation of a Senate committee for lifting ban on the student unions with consensus of government and opposition parties in Senate.

In a statement he said that the role of students in the Pakistan Movement, as well as, the integrity of Pakistan is unforgettable. Student unions are not only political nursery but they also provide leadership to the country. They also help improving education environment in institutions.

He said that democratic rights of students were snatched from 1984 and till now they are deprived of their democratic right of forming the student unions. He hoped that soon the ban on student unions would be lifted and they will conduct their elections.
