KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has demanded of the government to take effective measures in order to provide relief to the masses in holy month of Ramazan.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Naeem expressed his deep concern over the dramatic increase in the price of basic commodities including vegetables, fruits, honey, milk, yogurt and others.
He also condemned the 5per cent increase in custom duty on the import of 282 basic items, adding that the said step by the government was totally unjustified.
JI Karachi Chief further said that the government has increased the prices of basic commodities by 40per cent as compared to last year at the advent of holy month of Ramadan. However; special discounts and relief were being provided to the people on the advent of their religious festivals across the world.
Naeem urged the government to pay heed towards the burning issues of the masses including inflation, unemployment and poverty, so that the people can get sigh of relief from their prevailing issues.
