JI flays rise in electricity tariff for Karachiites

Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi chapter has criticized the decision to increase electricity tariff for Karachiites by yet another Rs0.54 per unit and demanded to immediately withdraw it.

JI Karachi amir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said the performance of the Karachi-Electric (KE) is highly disappointing. He said it is worth asking why the Nepra allowed the KE to increase its tariff by Rs0.54 despite its very poor performance and inability to serve its consumers.

He said the KE has been fleecing Karachiites with over-billing and over-charging. He said perpetual load shedding even in winter season when the electricity demand is low speaks volumes about the performance and ability of the KE. He said it is intriguing why the Nepra allows the KE charging more from its consumers, instead of making it answerable for its misdeeds. He said poor people have already burdened with price hike and inflation and now the cruel increase in power tariff would further burden their miserable lives.

The JI leader regretted that a few days back the tariff of gas was raised by up to 50percent which is nothing but brutal exploitation of the hapless masses.

He said all the promises made at the time of privatization of the KESC were not fulfilled and the privatization proved to be a ploy to loot and plunder citizens with impunity. He asked the government to withdraw the increased electricity tariff immediately and provide relief to the masses.
