Lahore: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has said that by the Grace of Allah, the Almighty, the JI Ijtema at the Minar e Pakistan had been highly successful and it would prove a milestone in the country’s politics and give a new hope to the nation.
In a statement here on Wednesday, he said that the JI workers, besides volunteers including men, women and the youth had worked day and night to make the congregation a success and their efforts had borne fruit.
He noted that at the Ijtema, the participants had vowed to refrain from telling a lie, backbiting and Haram and the JI would promote this culture in the society. He said that a record number of women and the youth had attended the JI moot. Besides, leaders of different political and religious parties and senior journalists and newspaper editors had also attended the Ijtema and the JI leadership was thankful to all of them.
Commenting on the political situation, the JI Secretary General said it would be in the interest of the Prime Minister and his team to solve the nation’s problems and stop delaying tactics. He said it was a matter of shame both for the government and the opposition that the high office of the Chief Election Commissioner did not have a permanent incumbent for a whole year. He said now the two sides I did not have option but to comply with the Supreme Court orders on this score.
Liaqat Baloch said the real issue was the reconstitution of the Election Commission, and making it fully autonomous, the election system should be over hauled and the system of proportionate representation be introduced in order to end the supremacy of individuals and establish the supremacy of the parties.
