JI support traders’ strike call

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami Sindh chapter Ameer Dr Mairajul Huda Siddiqui said on Monday that government’s act to impose withholding tax on bank transactions is unjustified. He announced his party’s full support to traders for their strike across Pakistan on August 5, 2015.

In a statement Monday, he demanded of government to withdraw the decision of withholding tax; otherwise public would take to the streets and would stage historic protest.

He said the government instead extorting huge money from public through indirect taxes should focus on direct taxation sources for improving Pakistan’s economy.

He said the JI is against the government’s stance to continue interest (Riba) as Quran and Hidith strictly forbid Riba in Muslim societies.

He said the main reason behind problems faced by Pakistan is government’s bad policies and the corruption. He said our rulers should awake before it is too late.
