Karachi police arrest seven including three extortionists

KARACHI: Karachi police have claimed that they have arrested seven suspects including three extortionists of Lyari Gang War in different actions in the metropolis on Saturday.

According to details, Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) in a joint action arrested three extortionist of LGW Baba Ladla group from Mauripur. The suspects used to collect extortion around the Mauripur truck stand from transporters and other businessmen. They used to send bullets and blood-stained shroud for threatening the targeted businessmen and transporters. Police also recovered weapons from their possession.

SSP SIU, Farooque Awan, while addressing a press conference at his office said that the suspects identified as Tanveer, Aqil Abbas, and Kamran had burnt a truck of Faisal Goods Transport Service, when its owner Faisal, refused to give extortion money to the suspect. The suspects after a few days again burnt a warehouse of Faisal when he continuously denied their threats.

The suspects had also collected extortion money from many other businessmen and transporters. Further investigation is under way, he said.

Awami Colony police arrested four suspects including three in injured condition, after an encounter near Korangi no. 05. Police also recovered weapons and two motorcycles from their possession.

SHO Awami Colony police station Khalid Abbasi said that police stopped two motorcyclists during snap checking, but they opened the fire and tried to flee. In retaliatory fire, the suspects Zeeshan, Aijaz, and Mohammad Asif become injured while Awal Zada tried to flee, but the police arrested them.

The suspects accepted many street crimes and further investigation is under way.
