Kashmir: Complete shutdown observed in IHK

Islamabad: In occupied Kashmir, complete shutdown was observed on Wednesday to mark the martyrdom anniversaries of prominent liberation leaders, Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone and martyrs of Hawal.

Call for the shutdown and a march towards Eidgah in Srinagar has been given by the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. Gunmen shot martyred Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq and 70 mourners on May 21, 1990

In a bid to foil the Eidgah march, the occupation authorities have placed Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and other Hurriyet leaders including Maulana Abbas Ansari, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Zafar Akbar Butt, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Masroor Abbas, Shahid-ul-Islam and Syed Saleem Gilani under house arrest.
