KCR proposals to be finalized by 14th

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui on Friday said that report on progress regarding Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) would be prepared by May 14 and presented to the federal and provincial authorities in next couple of days.

Talking to PPI at his office, Siddiqui said that the committee was tasked to prepare workable plans, in order to expedite the progress on long-awaited Karachi Circular Railway (KCR).

He said that the committee formed by Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique and Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah has held several meetings to consider workable plans regarding progress on KCR and it would complete its task before due date, 20 May 2014.

He said that the committee would present a workable plan which would entice more investment from foreign companies. “It is a profitable project and hopefully positive steps from government will be helpful in inviting foreign investment,” he said.

Siddiqui said that the matters pertaining to exemption of tax given to JICA were also discussed and it would soon be resolved.

“Our work is to give a plan to remove encroachments from the KCR track and remove financial hurdles,” he said adding that the government would accept no pressure on encroachment removal and all stake holders would be taken into confidence over the issue.
