KIHD approves installation of central oxygen plant

KARACHI: The governing body of Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases (KIHD), in a meeting chaired by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Administrator Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, has given approval in principal to the installation of central oxygen plant in the hospital with an estimated cost of over Rs110m.

The KIHD administration was however directed to put up a detailed and complete financial and technical report of the project in the next meeting of the governing body.

Metropolitan Commissioner Samiuddin Siddiqui and Financial Advisor Afaq Saeed along members Aqeel Karim Dhedi, Qazi Khalid Advocate, Shahana Urooj, Dr Waqar H Kazmi, Senior Director Medical & Health Services Dr Salma Kausar and Prof Nargis Raheem were also present on the occasion.

Acknowledging the requirement of central oxygen plant in KIHD, it was informed in the meeting that medical treatment would begin in the new building once the plant was installed which would also save millions of rupees annually by providing the facility to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, KMDC and other 170 health care units of KMC.

Administrator Karachi urged the governing body members that all the affairs in KIHD should be run in accordance with the bye-laws and anything done without adhering to bye-laws would be deemed as illegitimate and unauthorized. He praised the private members of the governing body who, he said, come here and attended the meeting by taking out their precious time.

It was also decided in the meeting to include a representative of National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) and Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) in the governing body of KIHD.

Expressing concern on administration’s failure for making the budget of the hospital since its inception, the governing body decided that the budget for next fiscal year would be put up in the next governing body after preparing it within 15 days.

A five member committee was also constituted in the meeting to take action under the laws on the promotion cases of senior employees of KIHD and put up it in the governing body meeting. The committee comprises of Shahana Urooj, Qazi Khalid Ali Advocate, Dr Waqar H Kazmi, Principal KMDC Nargis Raheem and Dr Salma Kausar.
