KMC, DMCs finalize offal lifting, burial arrangements

Karachi: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and district municipal corporations on Thursday finalized all arrangements for lifting and disposal of offal during Eid-ul-Azha.

A work force comprising of 7 thousand workers would take part in lifting of offal of sacrificial animals, whereas the municipal administration has arranged to dig 15 trenches in different locations in the city for burial of about 1.5million offal during three days of Eid.

“A total of 4 thousand small and big vehicles would also be used for lifting and disposal of offal. Action will be taken against the official who would show negligence in the whole operation. The district municipal corporations have been directed to work under full coordination with each other,” said KMC Administrator Sajjad Hussain Abbasi while talking to media representatives during visit of city’s six districts to review the arrangements made for lifting and disposal of offal a day before Eid-ul Azha.

The district administrators on this occasion gave briefing to the administrator Karachi on the arrangements which had been made by them and said speedy lifting and disposal of offal was ensured. They said zone wise works were performed for burial of offal of sacrificial animals.

The district central administrator informed that about 300 feet long and 25 feet deep trench has been dug near the Gharibabad railway line gate as an expected 50 thousand offal would be collected on the first day of Eid.

Abbasi said the staff of DMCs would lift the offal in their remits and dispatch it to the collection point.

He said he will also visit different areas of city on daily basis to ensure the lifting of all offal.

Administrator Karachi said no compromise will be made on sanitation conditions and KMC along with DMCs make it sure to keep the city clean during the whole operation.

He also appealed to the citizens to refrain from dumping offal in garbage drums or sewage drains so that these could be lifted immediately and their areas be kept clean and germs free.

Administrator Sajjad Abbasi said KMC will provide full cooperation to the DMCs in cleanliness works and for the purpose of guiding the people complaints centres were also being setup in the city to take immediate action.
