KMC employees’ salary case: SHC orders formation of committee led by commissioner

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday ordered the formation of a committee headed commissioner Karachi to implement the standard operating procedure (SOP) devised on its directions for the payment of salaries and pensions of KMC and DMC employees.

SHC bench headed by Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar was hearing the petition filed by KMC worker union, Sajjan, president of CBA KMC and retired pensioners seeking smooth payments of salary and pensions within specific time.

In Thursday’s hearing, the court ordered to prolong Rs 50 crores grant to KMC and directed KMC and DMC to resolve their issues including gratuity funds in the meeting. It also directed all the stakeholders to follow the SOP.

The court directed relevant authorities to form a committee led by commissioner Karachi to resolve the issue after taking suggestions from all stakeholders. It also directed to submit the report within 10 days.

Earlier, the KMC workers union, Sajjan, and others submitted in the application that thousands of employees are not getting their salaries and pensions on the time.

They stated that KMC and DMC employees are not getting salaries and pensions properly which causing them hardships. The petitioners prayed the court to direct the authorities to issue salaries and pensions to the KMC and DMC employees within the stipulated time.
