KMC to go for mechanized road cleaning

KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said on Thursday that road cleaning work with mechanized sweeping machines will remain continue in the city, repairing of out of order machines was being done and soon more machines would be bring in use.

Inspecting the mechanized sweeping work at Aiwan-e-Sadar Road on the night intervening Wednesday and Thursday along with the senior director Municipal Services Masood Alam and other officers, he said owing to shortage of machines, KMC has prepared weekly schedule of cleaning of major roads. During visit, he also reviewed the construction of a major road.

Siddiqui instructed municipal services department to bring the out of order road cleaning machinery on roads after their repairing. So far three machines were prepared whereas maintenance of other machines underway.

He said viewing the nature of weather in Karachi, it would ensure timely completion of city projects if development work was carried out in night hours. However he said construction of Malir bridge was completed and it will be inaugurated in few days.

Regarding removal of encroachments at Gujjar Nullah, he said the campaign against land grabbers will remain continue and action will be taken against all such encroachments established on city drains.
