KP government appeals ECP to flexible the election conditions for LG contestants

Peshawar: Provincial Government of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa has appealed to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to flexible the conditions for local government contestants as poor people would contest these elections.

“Conditions set by ECP for general election are very strict. It would be hard for the poor people to present NOCs, Tax numbers and other things therefore we appeal ECP to just flexible these conditions for the poor people,” Enayatullah minister for local government and rural development said while addressing a workshop regarding new local government system in the province.

Under the new system 24 departments would be devolved and they would be under district governments while district administration would have the powers to employee up to grade sixteen.

Funds, he said would be directly transferred to the villages councils, neighborhood councils as well as district and Tehsil councils through provincial finance commission.

He denied the impression that in the local government system CM has been empowered to suspend the district nazim saying that in other provinces CM has the same right to suspend a district Nazim for 90 days and consequently remove him after inquiry. “CM KP has the same right for 30 days and he would give reasons for suspension of a nazim in written” he said.
