LG employees protest for salaries

Naudero, Sindh: A strike was observed by sanitation & office staff of the municipality here on Thursday morning against delay in payment of their salaries. The protestors led by Roshan Pahore, Zahid Bhutto, Saeed Memon, Bashir Shaikh and others chanted slogans against Chief Municipal Officer, Ratodero and other local government officials.

While talking to media they alleged that the officers were involved in massive corruption and embezzlement of government funds and they were not releasing funds for payment of their salaries.

They are 325 employees in Naundero Municipality and they are facing problems due to non-payment of salaries. They said that over Rs 5 million were recently transferred for payment of their salaries they are still not being paid regular salaries.

It may be noted that the local government department during past tenure had recruited hundreds of thousands of employees on political or bribery basis and this huge overstaffing has resulted in non-payment of salaries and other problems. People of Sindh have repeatedly demanded to have a probe why surplus staff was recruited in the local government department but the provincial government is tight-lipped on this serious issue.
