ISLAMABAD: According to unofficial results of the third phase of local government (LG) elections received so far, PML-N has maintained its strong position in 12 districts of Punjab, while MQM in Karachi.
In Punjab, PML-N leads with 882 seats followed by independent candidates with 831. PTI has secured 236 and PPP 106 seats. In Karachi, MQM has won 135 seats, PPP 32, Jamaat-e-Islami 11 while PTI only seven seats.
According to reports, the last phase of local governments elections remained more peaceful as compared to previous two phases. Due to effective security apparatus put in place by the government, the overall election process was held in a peaceful manner except a few minor incidents of brawl and altercation.
The supremacy of PML-N in the concluding phase of the local government elections in Punjab reflects the faith and trust of the masses in the ruling party.
