ISLAMABAD: Voters are turning up to the polling stations in large numbers to use their right of franchise in the first ever local government elections in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).
A great enthusiasm is being witnessed especially in the rural areas of the Federal capital where men and women voters are queueing up outside the polling stations to cast their votes.
Polling in the urban areas gained further momentum after the closure of offices at 2.00 pm.
The polling will continue till 5.30 pm. Over twenty four hundred candidates are in the race for 650 seats of councillors, chairmen and vice chairmen in fifty union councils.
Pakistan Muslim League (N) has fielded five hundred and six candidates while four hundred and seventy-nine candidates are contesting elections on Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) tickets.
Nine hundred and seventy-two independent candidates are also in the fray. The Election Commission has set up a control room to receive complaints of the people pertaining to election. Its Telephone numbers are: 051-9210816, 9210817, and 9210818 and fax numbers 051-9210819 and 9210820.
