KARACHI: On Tuesday when Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) gave call to stage a rally in Karachi to show solidarity with their leader Altaf Hussain, many government offices in the city closed early.
When this scribe visited the Civic Center, hundreds of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) employees, including officers and senior officers, were closing down their offices after the first half of the office hours on Tuesday.
A large number of KMC employees have gathered in the open area of the Civic Center as offices were being closed one after another. A man was seen shouting instructions to get the offices closed.
Over 50 KMC offices in the Karachi Development Authority building of Civic Center were deserted at 3:00pm. A couple of whole floors were completely locked by the time including the 3rd floor. Many people who visited the offices to get resolve their civic issues were left helpless.
“The same could be expected when hiring is done on political recommendations in our society,” said a man roaming to resolve his land issue, after finding no responsible person in the offices. He said whenever some political party belonging to the government or opposition holds rally or program in the city, many offices go closed early. He suggested that political and administrative issues should be dealt separately.
