ISLAMABAD: A two-day moot of Executive Committee of Parliamentary Union of Islamic countries (PUIC) started here on Monday.
Inaugurating the conference, Chairman National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Awais Leghari called for greater cooperation amongst Islamic countries to achieve the objectives of peace and prosperity.
He said Pakistan has been facing onslaught of terrorism for the past two decades. Our sixty thousand personnel and civilians have laid down their lives in the war on terror.
He said Pakistan has enacted several legislations and launched operation Zarb-e-Azb operation to root out terrorism. He called for addressing the root causes of terrorism to achieve the greater objective of peace.
He said the world community should play its role for the resolution of outstanding disputes of Palestine and Kashmir. In his remarks, Secretary General of PUIC Mahmud Erol said the Islamic countries support Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism and ensure peace in the region.
