Peshawar: An introductory and planning meeting of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Joint Working Group on Civil and Political Rights of Women, Youth and Minorities held here on Tuesday. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Minister for Labour and Mineral Development, Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli was the chief guest on the occasion, while Vice Chairperson Women Parliamentary Caucus Naseem Hayat, Member Provincial Assembly Aisha Naeem, Provincial Coordinator of Democracy Reporting International Khalfan Khattak and other members of the group attended the meeting.
Khalfan Khattak in his introductory remarks said that the joint working group of parliamentarians and civil society members was formulated to address the issues relating to the realization of civil and political rights of women, youth and minorities.
On the occasion, members of the group presented their suggestions regarding the priority areas that should be addressed in a first stage. Provincial Minister Anisa Zeb while highlighting the significance of working group said that it was imperative that civil society and parliamentarians should have close coordination to protect the civil and political rights of women, minorities and youth.
She added that the group would enable parliamentarians to utilize the technical knowledge of civil society representatives in order to advance legislative reform in the assembly and also to advocate for reforms within their respective political parties.
Anisa Zeb said the present provincial government believes in practical work rather than the formal get together. They have to do a lot for the betterment of society in coming two years.
She urged that the working group should be proved as unique platform to achieve the goals and directed the members of group to present their suggestions regarding the priority areas in coming meeting.
On the occasion, Madam Mehreen, Gulalai and Haroon Sarbdial were elected as the focal persons for youth, women and minorities respectively.
