ISLAMABAD: A high level delegation of the Executive Board of the World Food Programme (WFP), headed by Mr. Samuel Beever, President of the Executive Board of World Food Programme (WFP) and Australia’s Alternate Permanent Representative to WFP, visiting Pakistan for their annual mission held a meeting with Mr. Saleem Sethi, Secretary, Economic Affairs Division (EAD) here on Monday.
The Secretary EAD appreciated the role of WFP as a valuable partner in relief and emergency situations. WFP has spent USD 561 million till date under its current programme (2013-15). Government of Pakistan has contributed 455,000 MT of wheat valued at USD 172 million, says a press release.
The visiting Board members valued the role of Pakistan as the largest host government donor in the World. They appreciated the efforts of the Government of Pakistan in the return and rehabilitation of the Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) of Zarb-e-Azb.
They were of the view that the efficiency with which the Government of Pakistan is dealing with the crisis can be used as a successful model in countries with similar situations.
