Islamabad: Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Pir Saddaruddin Shah Rashdi distributed cheques of financial assistance among the destitute families of overseas Pakistanis here Thursday.
Federal Secretary, Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Mr. Saifullah Chattha, MD Iftikhar Babar and other officers of OPF were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the institution of OPF is to help the destitute families of overseas Pakistanis and assured that this institution will stand by them through thick and thin.
On this occasion, the minister directed MD OPF to initiate a scheme of free education for the children of deceased families of overseas Pakistanis in the educational institutions of OPF.
He also announced to double the financial assistance from Rs.6,00,00,000/- to Rs.12,00,00,000/- per annum so that all the deserving applicants for financial assistance may be accommodated.
It may be mentioned here that OPF started the scheme of financial assistance in 1980 and since then OPF has distributed 455.422 millions rupees among 6817 destitute families of overseas Pakistanis.
In today’s function, the minister distributed cheques among 57 families @ Rs.1,50,000/- per family. The minister assured that 102.15 millions rupees will be distributed among 681 families in this financial year.
Out of 681, more than 600 cheques have already been distributed among the destitute families of overseas Pakistanis.
