ISLAMABAD: Pakistan says it is determined to fight terrorism but cautioned the international community not to repeat the past mistake of abandoning the region, as it did in 1990s.
Speaking at the U.S. Institute of Peace in Washington, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday said that Pakistani political and military leadership is united like never before in counterterrorism efforts.
He said the country is pursuing a comprehensive National Action Plan to wipe out the menace of terrorism as well as the militant mindset. He questioned whether the region would be able to defend itself after the drawdown of the US forces from Afghanistan.
For its part, Islamabad has vastly improved political and military coordination with the new government in Kabul. He said ISIS for the time being is totally a Middle East phenomenon, and has absolutely no presence in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
