Minister refutes news item trying that provincial govt has not acceded to the demands of young doctors

Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister for Health Sharam Khan Tarakai has strongly refuted a news item published in an English daily trying to create an impression that the provincial government has not acceded to the demands of young doctors and hence the young doctors have not yet called of their strike.

In a statement issued here he has termed the contents of the news item as misleading and clarified that a day long talks held on Friday between the provincial government and the Young Doctors Association (YDA) had resulted in an amicable solution of the issue as the government agreed to more than ninety percent demands of the YDA, and decided to constitute a committee to resolve the rest of the issues to which the YDA office bearers engaged in the talks expressed their full satisfaction, and in the presence of media they thanked the provincial government for all that and announced to call off their strike and resume duties immediately . “Despite all this the news item has presented a negative picture and tired to give an impression that the issue is still unresolved which is not the case at all”, he maintained.

Shahram Khan Said that Service Structure was the most important and major demand of doctors to which the government has agreed and added that it was an important issue for which the doctors had been voicing since long but no one in the past tried to address it and now the credit goes the present provincial government that it resolved such long lasted issue within a short span of one year. Regarding the mention of Ex- Minister for Health, Shaukat Yousafzai in the news item, Shahram Tarakai said that both they were the part of the coalition government and both enjoy very good relations with each other, and he is taking forward what his predecessor had initiated to introduce reforms in the department but the news item has tried to develop misunderstanding between them, he deplored.

The provincial Minister further clarified that whatever has been agreed between the Provincial government and the YDA will officially be notified on Monday i.e. day after tomorrow and on the same a committee consisting of YDA representatives and the health Department authorises to resolve the remaining issues will also be notified.

He concluded with the remarks that he had worked day and night with personal interest to resolve the issue and would work in the future as well to strengthen the doctor community. Shahram thanked Chief Minister Pervez Khattak for honouring his request regarding the demands of doctors.
