Minister takes notice of doctors shortage

KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar on Tuesday took serious notice of shortage of doctors, and medicines in various government hospitals and directed secretary health to fulfill the vacant posts and ensure proper medicine supply to the hospitals.

In a statement, Dahar said that Lyari General Hospital cateres to the needs of a large area; therefore, women medical officers shortage should overcome on priority basis so that the patients donot suffer any more. He said that women medical officers were being posted there.

Meanwhile, the health minister directed MS Civil Hospital Shikarpur to submit a detail report regarding absent doctors and paramedics. He showed his displeasure over non-supply of medicines to the patients. He also directed him to ensure proper functioning of medical equipments in the hospital.

He also took notice of mismanagement in ongoing nursing examination and directed special secretary health and head of nursing council to make proper arrangements for smooth running of the exams. He was of the opinion that maladministration on the part of officers concerned had brought bad name to the health department and this practice must be curbed in letter and spirit.
