MLOs demand judicial probe into raid

KARACHI: Medical Legal Officers (MLOs) of Karachi on Monday performed their duties by wearing black armed bands to record their protest against raid of law enforcers on the residence of JPMC MLO Dr Shahzad Ali in Lyari.

Senior Medical Legal Officer Dr Nisar Ali Shah talking to the media persons said MLOs of all major hospitals of Karachi including of Civil Hospital Karachi, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and other hospitals performed their duties by wearing black armed bands.

He said Secretary Health, Special Secretary Public Health and other officials contacted the MLOs and urged them not to boycott their duties. He said they also assured us for constitution of an inquiry committee to probe the incident.

He said MLOs presented their demands to the officials including a judicial inquiry of the incident, suspension of inspector and his team involved in torturing the MLO, provision of security of MLOs, establishing a separate directorate for MLOs and other demands.

It was pertinent to mention here that Dr Shahzad Ali MLO at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center was thrashed by law enforcement personnel at his home, who also deleted data from his laptop and took away his cell phone and documents.
