Karachi: Sindh Education Department has signed a MoU with the Chinese education department of Sichaun province of China for co-operation in the field of education and to teach Chinese language in the government schools of Sindh.
The MoU signing ceremony was held at the committee room of Sindh Assembly here on Tuesday. It was signed by the Secretary Education Sindh Fazalullah Pechucho and Liu Dong the Vice Director General of Education Department of China.
Sindh Senior Minister for Education Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Consul General of China Mr. Mayaou and other officials were also present.
According to the MoU, it is decided to start teaching of Chinese language as compulsory from class V1 to above in all government schools of Sindh within next three years. The students learning the Chinese language will get extra marks, scholarships and foreign visit opportunities for further education and training in China. These opportunities would be for those students who would pass Chinese language subject till matriculation and higher classes.
Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said that making teaching of Chinese language a compulsory subject was aimed at to promote Chinese language in the country because China and Pakistan has long lasting cultural and economic relations.
He said for teaching of Chinese language teachers, students, scholars, administration and other staff would be trained on exchange basis and scholarship will be awarded for learning Chinese language from the educational institutions in China. Afterwards these people would act as master trainers to teach the Chinese language in the Sindh Province.
He said in order to carry out and fulfill the goals of this MoU, the Additional Secretary of Sindh Education department Rehan Balouch and Director of Education Department of Sichuan of China Province would be the co-coordinators to co-ordinate the development and management of joint activities and through the above coordinators both parties would initiate proposals for activities under this MOU. The financial issues in this regard will be solved by negotiation.
He said MOU shall enter force upon signature and remain in force for a three years period and will come into effect on the date of its signature by both parties and will be amended with mutual agreement for both parties.
He said education departments of China and Sindh will develop educational cooperation and exchange programs based on equality and mutual benefitting in accordance with the regulations and laws of the respective countries.
He said a cultural centre of Chinese language project would be established in Karachi that would monitor the Chinese language project in the whole province.
