MQM challenges Sindh LG Amended Bill

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) challenged the Sindh Local Government Amended Bill 2013 in the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday.

MQM leader Khwaja Izharul Hasan and nominated mayor of Karachi Waseem Akhter approached SHC and challenged the bill under which election for special seats, mayor and deputy mayor would be held by showing of hands instead of secret polling.

The petitioners submitted that amendment in the Bill is violation of Article 266 of Pakistan’s Constitution which allows secret polling. The court was requested to declare the amendment made by the government as null and void.
