Mudassar stuns Shahzad to enter tennis tourney semis

Karachi: Seventh seed Mohammad Mudassar shocked second seed Shahzad Khan in men’s singles event and secured an unexpected berth in semifinals of Subh-e-Nau National Tennis Championship on Thursday at PTF Complex in Islamabad.

Young Mudassar played excellent game against experienced Shahzad and won first without any noted resistance from his opponent. Shahzad showed some experience in second set but that was not enough to compete against the aggression of Mudassar, who won the match by 6-2, 7-5 score.

Meanwhile, favorite Aqeel Khan overpowered Arham Atique registering a convincing 6-3, 6-0 triumph to confirm his presence in the semifinals of the event.

Mohammad Abid found stiff resistance from his opponent Heera Ashiq in the first set but he eventually managed to pull straight-set 7-6(9), 6-2 victory.

Eighth seed Ahmed Chaudhry stunned third seed Yasir Khan and recorded a formidable 6-3, 6-3 win.
