Islamabad: Deputy Speaker National Assembly Murtaza Javed Abbasi has said that Pakistan has made commendable progress in consolidating democracy in the country and all institutions of the state were working in their own spheres as mandated by the constitution.

He said that democracy is our salvation and destiny. He expressed these views while addressing the Pakistani community in Oslo, Norway at Independence Day Celebrations organized by Pak Norway Forum on Tuesday.

Deputy Speaker is visiting Norway along with three member parliamentary delegation consisting of MNAs Chaudhary Jafar Iqbal, Malik Ibrar Ahmad Khan and Abdul Majeed Khanan-e-Khel on the invitation from Pak Norway Forum.

Describing general elections 2013 as an important miles stone in the process of consolidation of democracy in Pakistan, the Deputy Speaker said that 2013 had seen the first ever peaceful transfer of power from one democratically elected government to another.

He affirmed that all political forces in the country were committed to work collectively for strengthening constitutionalism, good governance and rule of law.

The Deputy Speaker said that Independence Day reminded us of the spirit of Pakistan movement and the noble ideals that animated the struggle of Muslims of South Asia for an independent homeland and reiterated government’s pledge to make Pakistan a truly democratic and welfare state as visioned by the founding fathers of the country.

He said that with parliament’s full backing, the armed forces in Pakistan have achieved notable success in the operation Zarb-e-Azb against the terrorists.

Commending the contributions of expatriates for Pakistan, the Deputy Speaker said that overseas Pakistanis have excelled in different walks of life and have shown dedication and commitment to their work.

He lauded their contribution in building soft image of Pakistan abroad and said that Pakistan values their concern, love and affection for their homeland. He also praised Pak Norway Forum’s efforts in promoting Pakistan-Norwegian friendship and solving social problems in Pakistani community in Norway.
