ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly was informed on Wednesday that the new Education Policy is being finalized to improve the standard of education and make it compatible with modern global trends.
Parliamentary Secretary for Education and Professional Training Dr Darshan told the House during question hour that a committee comprising members from provincial education departments has been constituted to bring a consensus education policy.
He said the policy will be finalized by the end of this year and launched in January next year. Allocations for the education sector will be enhanced in phased manner.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad told the House that the government has decided to resurvey the beneficiaries of Benazir Income Support Programme in order to ensure that the cash grant reaches the deserving people.
He said 4.1 billion rupees have been disbursed to the deserving people in Balochistan under this programme during the current fiscal year. He said the government plans to widen the network of Sweet Homes under Pakistan Baitul Maal.
He said the budget of Sweet Homes will be enhanced in the coming years and more sweet homes will be opened at different places in order to accommodate maximum number of orphans. He said the children of these sweet homes are being provided with quality education at different schools.
Parliamentary Secretary for Cabinet Division Raja Javed Ikhlas assured the House that construction work on the new building of Poly Clinic Hospital Islamabad will be started during the current year.
An additional land of 2.54 acres from the Argentina Park has been acquired for this purpose. He said there is a plan to include cancer department in the Poly Clinic Hospital Extension Project.
He said the Planning Commission is working on the establishment of a full-fledged cancer hospital in Islamabad. A committee has been constituted to chalk out the prefeasibility of the project.
The House offered Fateha for the departed soul of PML-N leader Haji Sardar Mohmand who was shot dead in Peshawar on Wednesday. The National Assembly resumed its session on Wednesday with Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in the chair.
