ISLAMABAD: Acting Speaker National Assembly Murtaza Javed Abbasi on Wednesday approved the constitution of Parliamentary Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Notification in this regard has been issued by the National Assembly Secretariat.
The Parliamentary Committee has been constituted in pursuance of motions adopted by the National Assembly on June 24, 2015 and the Senate on July 10, 2015 and in consultation with the Chairman Senate and Leaders of the parliamentary parties.
The Committee has been mandated oversight of CPEC Projects to ensure implementation of consensus reached at the APC meeting held on May 28, 2015. The Committee will monitor the implementation of the projects and make recommendations for speedy and timely implementation of the projects.
The Committee may also make recommendations for improvements that may result in cost and time reduction as well as provision of better services to the public. The Committee will also endeavour to promote consensus and support for CPEC in the federation.
The Committee will present its periodical report to both the House of the Parliament. The Committee has been authorized to make rules to regulate its procedure.
