NA: (Resolution of longstanding Kashmir dispute is imperative for regional peace and stability: NA Speaker)

ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Thursday said that resolution of longstanding international dispute of Kashmir is imperative for regional peace and stability.

He asked Germany to play its role in settling the conflict in accordance with UN resolutions and aspirations of the people of Kashmir. He was talking to Special Representative of Germany for Afghanistan and Pakistan Ambassador Sabine Sparwasser who called on him here in Parliament House.

He asserted that Kashmir has remained the bone of contention between India and Pakistan for more than six decades igniting wars and conflicts across working boundaries of the both countries. He said that international community needs to focus on Kashmir dispute for enduring peace and stability in the region.

Referring to Pakistan’s steps taken in establishing peace in Afghanistan, the Speaker said that Pakistan enjoys cordial relations with its neighbouring country and desires a stable and prosperous Afghanistan for regional stability.

He said political and military leaderships of both the countries were in constant contact and discussing issues pertaining to security of the region. He appreciated German forces for their role in maintaining law and order in Afghanistan.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq stressed upon the international community for devising a global strategy to address the menace of terrorism and extremism confronting world security and stability. He said Pakistan has been the worst hit by the terrorism and is taking strong measures to fight this menace.

He said that present government is committed to root out terrorism from the country and had launched a military operation being supported by all the political forces.

He underlined the need for strengthening of bilateral relations between Pakistan and Germany through active parliamentary interaction.

He said that parliamentarians from both side could bring both the nations closer. He extended his invitation to German parliamentarians to visit Pakistan and witness the peaceful environment of the country contrary to what western media portrayed it to the West.

Special Representative of Germany for Afghanistan and Pakistan Ambassador Sabine Sparwasser thanked Speaker for the kind hospitality extended to her during her visit to Pakistan. She agreed on enhancing parliamentary interaction between Germany and Pakistan and said that legislatures of both the countries could learn from each other.

She said Germany acknowledges Pakistan’s significant role for its peace initiatives in the region and extended her government’s support in that regard. She said that Germany also appreciates resilience and courage exhibited by the people of Pakistan and their sacrifices rendered in War against terrorism.

She agreed that Global peace was at threat due to terrorism for which joint efforts were imperative. She said that Pakistan was playing a vital role in development and peace in Afghanistan by hosting Heart of Asia Conference in Islamabad and expressed her hope that outcome of the conference would help stakeholders to form future plan of action in that regard.
