National Ranking Open Tennis Championship commences in Islamabad

Karachi: The inaugural edition of Serena Hotels Open Tennis Championships 2015 commenced on Sunday at S. Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex in Islamabad with 48 qualifying matches played on the first day o the tournament.

Most of the top ranked national tennis players have confirmed their entries in this week-long tournament.

Pakistan No 1 Aqeel Khan is top seed in men’s singles event. Meanwhile, Shahzad Khan is expected to meet Aqeel in the summit clash.

Mohammad Abid, Yasir Khan, Heera Ashiq, Usman Rafiq, Mohammad Mudassar and Ahmed Chaudhry are seeded 3rd to 8th in the event respectively.

There were 64 participants in the men’s singles qualifying draw. Abbas Khan, Zaid Mujahid, Arham Attique, Saeed-ul-Haq, Faizan Khurram, Raja Shahid, Haris Irfan-ul-Haq and Barkatullah have qualified for the main draw by winning two matches in the qualifying event on Sunday.

In the Junior U-18 Singles qualifying rounds, Syed Mohammad Ahmed, Bilal Kabir, Amir Naseem, Zain Rohail, Mujahid Zeb, Arsam Shahzad, Hamidullah and Zohaib Khan have qualified for the main draw.
